SJSS Regatta #5 - Brigantine Yacht Club

This event will serve as the "Midget Qualifier" -

Each Association (YRA - Yacht Racing Assoc.)  may enter two boats in each of the single handed (Optimist) and double handed (Club 420 with spinnaker and trapeze) classes.  These eliminations are open to all MAYRA Midgets, with no restriction as to one per club.  Sailors are eligible for “Midget” status if they are 15 years or younger on December 31, 2019.  This could change based on the hosting club AC NOR.

To determine which two boats represent MAYRA in the Club 420 class and the OPTI class, MAYRA conducts a one-day elimination, this year at BYC, due to the tradition of the 5th SJSS Regatta of the season serving as the qualifier. Those who qualify at this event, will be invited to attend the  Midget Mid Atlantic Championship, to be held on Aug 17 - 18, at the Westhampton Yacht Squadron in Remsenburg , NY.

NOR FOR THE MID ATLANTIC MIDGET CHAMPIONSHIP - NOTE - this event is by invitation for Qualifiers only!

The top two Midget finishers (in each class - Club 420 and OPTI) qualify for the Middle Atlantic Midget Championships.  If a qualifier cannot attend, the invitation to represent MAYRA goes to the next finisher who meets the age requirements (which is that the sailor - or crew - cannot be above the age of 15 at the time of the event - August  17-18.

TEAM RACING

Unfortunately, Team Racing at OCYC on 7/26 did not occur. The wind did not cooperate and only one team - besides OCYC, showed up.  Thanks CRYC for making the effort to team race. We, at MAYRA, really appreciate it.

NOTICE OF CIRCUIT

1.0 Invitation

You are cordially invited to participate in the MAYRA ORC to be held during July and August 2019.

2.0 Rules

Each of the three MAYRA offshore events included in the MAYRA ORC will be governed by their own Sailing Instructions and are organized by their own host yacht club or clubs. MAYRA is the organizer and sponsor of circuit scoring only. A committee consisting of the chairs of the three offshore events of the MAYRA ORC shall declare circuit winners based on the scoring system contained within this Notice of Circuit.

3.0  Eligibility

All members of MAYRA Yacht Clubs are eligible to participate in the MAYRA ORC.

4.0 Schedule

Three scheduled offshore events comprise the 2018 MAYRA ORC.  These events are as follows:

July 27th           Avalon Cup

August 2nd and 3rd     Cape-to-Cape Challenge

August 9th and 10th    Leukemia Cup

5.0 Scoring

Scoring is based on the Low Point scoring system as described in Appendix A4 and A9 in the Racing Rules of Sailing.  Participation in one event is required for qualification.  A yacht’s final circuit score shall be the total of her final positions in each of the events sailed.  Yachts which do not participate in all three events shall receive a DNS for the events not sailed.  For each of the three events, a yacht’s final position in her class shall be used for circuit scoring, not including feeder races.

In order for a one-design class to receive a seasonal award (see section 6.0) that class must be represented in at least two of the three MAYRA ORC events.

If some classes are combined in some regattas but not in others, their scores shall be broken out by their MAYRA ORC class for the purposes of circuit scoring.  Specific scenarios may be as follows:

5.1 Multiple classes due to large fleet size

It's possible/probable that there may be multiple PHRF spinnaker classes at one of the three events.  There may also be multiple PHRF nonspinnaker classes.  The classes would be broken out by rating (ie high ratings and low ratings).  In this scenario there will be two 1st place boats in the PHRF spinnaker division and two 1st place boats in the Nonspinnaker division.  There will be no attempt to break the tie based on these results alone.  The other events will ultimately become the tie breakers where all PHRF spinnaker boats will sail head-to-head and all PHRF non-spinnaker boats will also sail head-to-head.

5.2 Merged classes due to small fleet size

If the J70 class is merged with the PHRF Spinnaker class in any event, points will be assigned for the purposes of circuit scoring as follows.  The first J70 to finish will be assigned one point for the purposes of circuit scoring for the J70 award, even if a lower place was assigned in the merged class.  Similarly, the second J70 will be assigned two points, and so on for all J70s.  All PHRF spinnaker boats will be assigned the number of points for circuit scoring based on their final position in the particular event as if the J70s were not part of their class.  This same rule shall apply to the J24 and Melges24 classes if they are merged with the PHRF Spinnaker class in any event.

6.0 Prizes

Individual Class prizes (keepers) for the MAYRA ORC will be as follows:

1st place PHRF Spinnaker

1st Place PHRF Non-Spinnaker

1st Place J70

1st Place J24*

1st Place Melges24*

*Assuming class eligibility has been met as described in section 5.0 of this document.

In addition, a perpetual MAYRA Trophy will be presented to the circuit winner of each class.  The name of the winning yacht will be engraved on the award which will be held at the winning yacht’s home club for one year.

Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Leukemia Cup on August 10th.  Prizes will be presented to the winners at the MAYRA awards banquet at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia in December 2019.

7.0 Entry

There is no separate entry form or fee for the 2019 MAYRA ORC.
